• Bark is scaly, purplish-gray, and shoots are orange-brown. Bluish gray-green leaves are needle-like, very stiff, thick, sharp, 4 sided, 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches long
• ‘KosterI’ has glaucous, silvery-blue needles.
